MESSAGE FROM DIRECTOR GENERAL
I feel eminently honoured and highly delighted to take this opportunity on behalf of the Department of Environment (DoEnv) to heartily welcome all of the respected readers, visitors and stakeholders to our official website of DoEnv. I'm exceedingly elated to express my heartfelt gratitude and best wishes to all of the visitors of our website for their precious time.
It gives me an immense pleasure to throw light on the Department of Environment (DoEnv), one of the major wings of Ministry of Science Technology and Environment (MoSTE). With the mandate to implementing Environment Protection Act 2053 and Environment Protection Regulation 2054, Environmental Guidelines, Standards and Directives issued by Government of Nepal, Department of Environment (DoEnv) has been established under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (MoSTE), in accordance with the cabinet decision of the Government of Nepal on 12th Shrawan, 2069 (27th July, 2012). As an implementing organization of environmental laws, the department also provides the technical assistance to MoSTE while formulating policies and laws in regard to environment. The department is also responsible for harmonizing the environmental activities that complies with international obligations in collaboration with MoSTE.
The department, since its establishment, has been engaged in monitoring and controlling of environmental pollution, monitoring and auditing of approved Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports, various programs related to the environmental impact adaptation and promotional activities related to the environmental awareness through its four implementing sections. Besides, it is also embedded with the research and development activities in the various aspects of environment. Being one of the youngest departments of the ministry, it has been prime concern for safeguarding the environmental components and balancing the ecological setup adopting the ecological principles to achieve sustainable development goals. It will be a significant evolutionary momentum when the department will pave the way for flawless plying of objectives and aims to enhance the balance between development and environment for the betterment of every biological unit in this earth.
Though the department lacks its network in regional, district and local levels, the functional activities, for a while, has been conducted with hard and bared central equipped mechanisms. Also the department has to establish a strong coordination, collaboration and participation among international, public and private line agencies and also with the other governmental stakeholders for regulating the legislation and implementing the environmental activities smoothly. The development and implementation of scientific and practical models to furnish these couple of gaps will be my prime focus to establish a milestone for the synergistic environmental achievement for the country during my tenure in this department.
I wish to help develop this department as an organization, within which all people, Nepalese citizens, including farmers and development stakeholders, goods and service providers, irrespective of their personal capabilities or physical resources, feel that they have space and esteem for their individual or combined contributions with synergistic effect by means of various approaches and instrumentations, acts, rules and regulations, guidelines, standards and directives as weapons to combat pollutions and degradation as well as to improve and upgrade the environmental quality.
Valuable comments and suggestions are always welcome with pleasure. Thanking you for your kind visit to our website.
